Why SUP Boards Need High Pressure

An inflatable paddle board only becomes rigid — and performs like a hard board — at 12–15 PSI class pressures delivered by a dedicated high-pressure pump. Regular low-pressure air pumps (0.5–0.65 psi) will fill the volume but leave the board soft and unstable. For kayaks and boats, working pressures are lower, but a high-pressure pump still cuts setup time dramatically.

Three Setup Rules

• Match the valve — confirm your board's valve type (HR/Halkey-Roberts is most common) and use the right adapter.
• Start wide, finish strong — high airflow fills the volume fast; the final pressure stage is where a 600W pump earns its keep.
• Don't over-inflate on hot days — leave a small margin; air expands in the sun.
